About Us

Happy Fridays, Inc is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization dedicated to raising money & awareness as efficiently as possible for other tax-exempt non-profit organizations. Since we're tax-exempt it means we can pass 100% of your donations directly to other tax-exempt non-profits. In other words, donating to your favorite cause through Happy Fridays is really no different from donating directly to the other non-profits. The only difference is that we go out of our way to make it fun for you.

We believe that people like to have fun. And if we can make the world a better place and have fun at the same time, then it's a win-win, so we set out to build a website that makes this possible. We hope you find your time is well-spent here. Rest assured that we're continuously working to improve at everything we do, so be sure to check back in on us from time to time to see what we're up to.

We promise that we will never share your personal information with anyone. And if the authorities ever try to tell us that we have to give them access to your information, we plan on fighting tooth-and-nail to protect your privacy. The bottom line is that we will always be looking out for you. It really doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.

All supplied sensitive/credit information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our Payment gateway providers database and is only accessible by authorized persons with special access rights to such systems who are required to keep the information confidential.

After a transaction, your private information (credit cards, social security numbers, financials, etc.) will not be kept on file for more than 60 days.

One evening in the Fall of 2007 we were having beers, idly brainstorming ideas for websites that would attract a lot of traffic. The ideas started flowing, each one more ridiculous than the last. This exercise soon evolved into a game of who could come up with the craziest million dollar concept. We were seriously cracking each other up. If you're ever in the same room with us then you'll understand what we mean.

At one point we had the idea to post a web page displaying an attractive girl wearing a swimsuit. The idea being that we could divide the swimsuit up into one million pixels and then allow people to collectively remove the swimsuit one pixel at a time, leaving the attractive girl wearing nothing but her birthday suit. If we charged one dollar per pixel, then we'd bring in a million dollars!

A light bulb suddenly turned on. "Let's do that and devote all of the money to finding a cure for breast cancer! It's a win-win!"

From that moment forward we focused on the idea as a non-profit. We figured it would be awesome if we could tap into a basic element of human nature and use it to help raise money and awareness for good causes. It would enable people to do something that they naturally enjoy and, in the process, actually help make something good happen.

And thus the idea for Happy Fridays was born. We've worked hard over the past year to take that original idea and build it into something even bigger. We figure most people like to make good things happen, especially if it's easy. And above all people like to have fun. That is pretty much what we aim to do: make it fun and easy for honest, hard-working people to help make good things happen.

Wanna know where we got our name?

Back in 2004, the global financial markets were booming. People were making money hand-over-fist and times were good for just about everyone. In New York, on a trading floor of one of Wall Street's oldest and most respected investment banks, there were hundreds of people who had it pretty good and happiness reigned. The people on that trading floor had a weekly tradition that reminded them to think of those who might not have it so good. Every Friday a guy would walk around the trading floor saying, "Happy Friday!" He carried a bin into which everyone would drop a twenty-dollar bill with his or her name written on it. After everyone's money was in the bin, the guy would draw from it a single bill. If the bill had your name on it, then you got double your money back. Then he would draw a second bill from the bin and if it was yours, you simply got your money back. The money that was left in that bin all went to charity. It was easy and it was fun because everyone was involved. The tradition became known as "Happy Friday". When we were trying to think of a name we remembered that tradition and thought it pretty much summed up what we're trying to do and who we are. We want everyday to be a "Happy Friday".

It's funny how the world works. In early 2008 that bank fell as the global financial markets collapsed, which was unfortunate because that particular bank actually had a policy that required its highest paid employees to donate a portion of their salaries to charity. A lot of worthy non-profit organizations counted on receiving millions of dollars from the bank every year, so the fall of the bank has left a void. Though the bank's name and its long-held tradition of philanthropy will now fade into history, the tradition of those people who worked on that trading floor - to always do their part to help those who are less fortunate - lives on here at Happy Fridays.
